Description
Porto Venere lies at the southern end of a peninsula, which forms the western tip of the Gulf of La Spezia, also known as the Gulf of Poets. Having been founded in the 1st century BC, the village was given the name in honour of the temple dedicated to Venus, which once had been standing there.
